Stop the little Hitlers!
Grrrr . . . I'm angry!
I went out today to Oldham to meet a delightful couple, Mandy Smith and Steve Brook - and their daughter Rebecca, who'll be one year old on the 28th (my birthday, as it happens).
They told me about what happened the last time they went to Alexandra Park in Glodwick.
Some little Hitler security guard spotted them taking a photo of their daughter on the swings.
This jobsworth idiot told them that it was ILLEGAL to photograph their daughter in the park.
Of course, it isn't. And the council there has confirmed that it isn't.
This fool, however, not only has no understanding of what it means to be in a free country, but he believes his powers stretch to enforcing some Stasi-like regulations.
Imagine what life would be like when or if we get the ID card.
We'll have these unpleasant power-crazy bureaucrats demanding to see our cards at the slightest excuse. These people will think they have more power than they actually do and they'll want to use it.
The imbecile security guard in this case even said to Steve and Mandy that he didn't know they were Rebecca's parents - with some thinly-veiled assumption that they were paedophiles. For taking a picture of their daughter enjoying herself on the swings. It beggars belief.
Thank goodness civil servants are so inept.
The fact that they managed to lose the details of everyone who gets child benefit on those two computer discs a couple of weeks ago might make us think twice about ID cards.
Do you really trust such inept people with information about you?
That incident has made many people who previously thought ID cards were a good idea think again. I hope the tide has turned on this insidious suggestion.
ID cards would only give power-crazy nobodies another means to harass innocent members of the public.
