We want to see our own city
THE city centre’s big wheel is good. But it’s not tall enough to peer over some of the city’s buildings.
That got me thinking.
We don’t have a place where we get a bird’s eye view of the city.
In most big cities, there is public space at the top of skyscrapers. You can go up the Eiffel Tower, the Empire State Building and Toronto’s CN Tower, for example. They’re landmarks that give something back to their cities.
It’s a shame that the council didn’t insist on space at the top for us plebs to gawp at our own city at the top of the Beetham Tower or one of the new buildings, such as the Eastgate Tower at Piccadilly or Castlefield Quay Tower.
Perhaps someone in the town hall could consider making that a condition the next time they get a skyscraper plan.
