Love of Libraries

Manchester's Central Library is fantastic, isn't it? Not only it is an amazing building but it's also a great asset for the city.
I interviewed one of the library's staff in the main Reading Hall this morning. The room is dome shaped and has an echo, which made the interview rather amusing. Verdy, the cameraman, assured me it wouldn't be noticeable on TV.
The library has a monthly Patent Clinic, where would-be inventors can get business and legal tips from experts. It is marking its 10th anniversary today with a workshop. Attending will be ten inventors who have been helped along the road to success by the clinic.
Just goes to show, Central Library is about so much more than just lending books.

Comments

I love libraries and can't understand why everyone doesn't use them. Where else can you borrow any book you like at no cost? I wonder if they will become more popular in this credit crunch as people look for cheaper entertainment. It is good to see libraries trying other methods to try and encourage people in. Recent talk about coffee shops on site is a good idea - they have worked well in book shops and may make the visit a more social occasion. However maybe that wouldn't be fitting in the Reading Hall in Manchester library. I've never been but it sounds great. Something to do on the next rainy weekend!
